Kickstarter campaign launched for Election War Room

Election War RoomIt’s mid-summer 2012 in the United States which means the only thing hotter than the weather is the presidential election campaign. Claw & Co. looks to capitalize on the timing by releasing Election War Room 2012, an iOS board game that lets you control the campaign of one of the two leading candidates: Barack Obama or Mitt Romney.

In Election War Room, the player battles his or her way through the turn-based campaign trail trying to earn enough electoral votes to win the election. Special interest groups, auctioned special abilities, and saavy choices in campaign states all go towards achieving that goal. Election War Room  works as a two-player, asynchronous game, though both players’ moves are resolved at the same time once their choices are made.

The current plan is for Election War Room to be released this month, but the team needs some help crossing the finish line. That’s where Kickstarter comes in as the team has set up their own campaign to raise the final $6k. The money is intended to go towards finishing up the artwork and improving quality through additional playtesting. The blue sky dream is to raise a total of $15k that might eventually make the game free, but the team is setting their sights on the more realistic goal at this time. Rewards for backing the game range from free copies to backer-created news items to a developer-centric boardgame night in San Francisco with the creator of Plants vs. Zombies who was an advisor on the project. Check out the official campaign video below then head on over to the Kickstarter campaign page to check out all of the rewards.

Could be fun, though there’s already a similar game out called The Political Machine 2012.

    Hi Alan,

The themes of the two games are definitely similar but the execution is really quite different. Election War Room is built from the ground up to be an asynchronous game meant to be played on your phone. It is also geared to be much more accessible to casual gamers than it looks like Political Machine 2012 is.

Would love to get your thoughts on it so please check out the Kickstarter and feel free to leave a comment!

I’m not 100% on this, but I feel like you pose a potential law suit using Obama and Romney’s names in your game without obtaining some form of a release to do so. I could very likely be wrong but it’s worth looking into just to save yourself the hassle of some pretty nasty monetary damages(and you know politicians when it comes to money…)
