Our Review Scoring System

The Indie Mine currently assigns review scores to games, but not books, music, or movies. We use a 5-point scale with whole integer increments. The standard definitions for the scores roughly break down in the following manner:

Overall Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

This game is pretty much devoid of any value and is not worthy of your time.

Overall Rating: ★★☆☆☆

While the game may have the occasional flash of promise, there are too many issues that keep it from being worthy of a recommendation.

Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆

A good or okay game that does many or a few things well, but also has a number of issues. These issues can fall under the categories of bugs, control issues, design issues, repetitiveness, lack of originality, etc. Despite these problems, the game is worth playing.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆

A great game that’s easily recommendable for some or many audiences. While the game might have a few issues, they don’t detract from an overall enjoyable experience.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★

A fantastic game that’s a must-play for most or all audiences. The game doesn’t necessarily have to be a perfect experience, but it’s darn close.

Although individual reviews can be searched for on the site, a sortable table containing all of our game reviews can be found here.
