Frogdice combines dungeon crawlers with puzzle games in Dungeon of Elements.

We’re no strangers to development studio Frogdice having interviewed producer Mike Hartman about past games like Coin n’ Carry and Threshold. The developers have moved onto a brand new title, Dungeon of Elements, which takes place in the same universe as those previous games. The team is currently seeking funding for the game through Kickstarter.

Dungeon of Elements is the latest in a line of games that attempts to meld disparate genres into a cohesive package. The framework is an RPG dungeon crawler that includes character creation, loot collection, and crafting. The combat in the game uses a puzzle system that takes its inspiration from classics like Tetris and Dr. Mario.

The game is actually fairly close to completion, so the Kickstarter campaign is really meant to bring an extra layer of polish particularly in sound design. Pledging $15 or more will net backers a copy of the game, and higher-tier rewards include digital artwork, virtual currency for other Frogdice titles, exclusive in-game weapons, invitations to the launch party and more.

The development team has done a great job showing off what Dungeon of Elements is really about, and you can get a first-hand look at how it’s progressing by checking out the campaign’s official video on the Kickstarter page. That page also has much more detailed information about the game including the story, details about boss battles, and more about the world in which the game takes place. With just over two weeks to go, the campaign is sitting around 65% funded, so there’s still plenty of help needed.

One of the best parts of peering into the indie entertainment industry is witnessing the collaboration that takes place between artists. Sometimes, though, that camaraderie occurs in the shadows of tough times.

I was recently contacted by Chris Rigg of ManScared, a PR company that represents members of the indie music community. Chris let me know about a man named Danny Lackey, co-founder of the When the Sun Hits blog. It’s a site much like ours in its dedication to providing media exposure for musicians of all kinds. Danny, also a musician with the band Deepfieldview, passed away on January 28th after a battle with cancer.

Danny was well-respected in the community and it’s evident by the support of the friends and colleagues he left behind. A number of them have banded together to help raise funds for Danny’s other half, Barbie. They’re doing so by providing a number of their tracks for streaming and purchase through Bandcamp. At the time Chris contacted us, that number of tracks stood at 98, but that figure has continued to climb.

There’s something in the track list for music lovers of all genres. We’ve included a couple of songs below, but you can find the full list at the Fund For Danny Lackey Bandcamp page.

Latest bundle promotion helps fund an indie developer grant.

Here at The Indie Mine, we’re all about helping out independent developers in whatever way we can. So when we heard about a new fundraiser to help out new industry pioneers, we were excited to share the news with you. The 3rd Bundle in a Box promotion will help bring in money to aid one lucky studio in funding their future projects. As indicated in the press release below, any developer wishing to participate in the promotion has until tomorrow to get their submissions in. Stay tuned to The Indie Mine for future announcements including when the bundle will officially launch.

The Indie Dev Grant, the feature of Bundle In A Box we are most proud of, is, as you may already know, a grant designed to help indie game developers actually create the games they’ve always wanted to. For every 100 bundles sold, $10 will be added to the grant. One indie developer (be it a group or an individual), voted by the esteemed fans of Bundle in a Box will get the whole amount after the bundle ends.

No strings will be attached by either Bundle in a Box or Kyttaro Games.

The grant can be used in any way the developer that earns it sees fit and will in no way be obliged to co-operate with Kyttaro Games or Bundle in a Box. Developers that have already taken part in one of our bundles or are willing to do so in the future are also eligible for the grant. Actually, absolutely anyone is free to enter; yes, even people trying to buy some time in order to create their next freeware gem.

As gamers will start voting on the developer that will earn the grant from the moment the bundle launches, we do ask those interested in participating to contact us with their entries up to November 26.

To enter, applicants will have to e-mail us at info@bundle-in-a-box.com and provide us with the following:

-A title for the project they are going to be using the IDG for.

-One screenshot or piece of concept from their project.

-One link to their project’s or their personal site (if available).

-A description of the project (up to 200 words)

-Something about them or their team (up to 100 words)

All Indie Dev Grant entries will be presented on tumblr and on the Bundle In A Box blog.

-Konstantinos Dimopoulos, Kyttaro Games
