Top Ten Linux Indie Games

Postby wouter » Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:12 am

Imo it should've started with number 10, but anyway. My personal top 10 would include Killing Floor, Serious Sam 3, Cave Story+, Psychonauts and Bastion, maybe The Cave.

Hi! Nice job with the list! I found a few ones I never heard of.

Minor correction: it's "battle for wesnoth", not "battle of wesnoth"

I am a gamer and Linux is killing me.
Especially after E3 this weekend.

Games are really holding Linux back.
Look at the completely outdated graphics.
Being truly honest with yourself Linux really sticks when it comes to games.

If all you care about with games are the graphics, you really aren't a gamer.

I find it odd that this list has games like Warsow and Battle for Wesnoth which are free games/open source, not indie games? Indie generally means commercial games by developers without publishers doesn't it?

Very valid point and my observation also - A little confusion on what is an indie game.

I like the suggestions of other games which ought to be on the list - it's good to see that there are so many good indie games on Linux.

What qualifies as an indie game is a matter of opinion, it seems. To me an indie game is normally any game without the backing of a publisher. To that extent I would call Warsow and Battle for Wesnoth indie, even though they are open source. But people will no doubt have their own idea of what makes a game 'indie'.

Its the indie game scene that is making this possible. With tools like Unity making it easier and easier for indie game developers to target linux, we are about to see an explosion of great, interesting, unusual, sometimes completely bonkers games. Wonderful.

My game, Mammoth Gravity Battles (www.mammothgravitybattles.com) will absolutely be out for Linux.
